Ham and mushroom lattices, bbq potato slices, sweetcorn and cherry tomatoes

Today started, as usual, with Suki yelling in my ear for food. I got up, decided to go to the loo first, and came out to mum warning me that Suki had been sick. Mum then asked what time it was, decided it was early enough to go back to sleep, and did so.

It never ceases to amaze me how Suki is ‘our’ cat when mum wants to stroke the cat, and ‘my’ cat whenever something unpleasant, like cleaning up vomit, needs doing. At least she warned me before I stepped in it, I suppose.

For the rest of the day mum was much brighter than she has been lately: we went outside and picked strawberries (the ones the rats didn’t get to first, anyway), I potted up the rest of the tomato seedlings, and mum pottered around pruning things and occasionally casting mildly anxious glances at the increasingly cloudy sky.

Then I came inside to contact my online banking service to ask why a payment I made hadn’t gone through. The customer service rep told me they couldn’t see why the problem was occurring, and told me to call the bank to ask for help. That, to me, rather defeats the object of banking online. It certainly defeated me in making my donation to Soccer Aid: I will try again tomorrow, I promise.

This afternoon our cleaner, Lil, came round. After doing her usual rounds, she agreed to sort out the cookware cupboard, which had devolved into a state that threatened a pan landslide every time I opened the door.

The clattering unsurprisingly drove Suki into hiding, and there she stayed until mum began to panic. I called “Suki-Suki-Suki-Sooks!”, and out she popped. I guess that – sorry, mum – Suki really is my cat. 🥹

Dinner was a ‘things on a baking tray’ meal, as I was far too tired to do anything more complicated. The bbq potato slices were nice, the lattices were indifferent. At least it was easy.

Now it’s the usual tv before bed, enlivened by watching Suki watching Springwatch. If you hear a crash, you’ll know that Suki has tried to catch the birds but has instead hit the television.

The brave hunter herself.
