Chicken and mushroom pie and salad

Another day like pretty much every other day recently. Mum has been in perma-complaint mode all day, to the point that I genuinely don’t know how I haven’t thrown something at her.

I know she is in considerable discomfort from the lichen sclerosus, which is a truly horrible condition. I know she’s struggling to understand how to apply the topical cream – I’m pretty sure she put some in her mouth last night, although she insisted she hadn’t. I know she needs help from the community nurse, and I have called them four times now without success in getting a response.

I know all this, but I also know that complaining with every breath does nothing to make her feel better, and everything to make me feel considerably more irritable.

This afternoon our new cleaner arrived, four hours later than originally scheduled thanks to a problem with his scheduling app. In the circumstances I decided to let it pass that he stayed for only 40 minutes, when we were paying him for an hour, but I might have to pick him up on it if he tries it again next week.

“Purr.”

Apart from that, today I have mostly done emails, and a grocery order to deal with mum’s recurring complaints that there’s “nothing to eat”. She takes this as an insult from the world, totally failing to realise that the ‘missing’ food has all been consumed by one person, and that person is her.

For dinner I had no energy to do anything but throw a couple of frozen chicken pies in the oven. They were fine.

Tomorrow I’m going out to view a bungalow, have some lunch, and enjoy a couple of hours away from the never-ending complaining. That’s if I make it to bedtime without throwing things, anyway.
