Veg quesadilla and salad
Another day like every other day recently: mum complaining and performing helplessness until I lose my patience and snap, after which she perks up.
I found a beautiful flat in Ventnor that’s up for rent, but reluctantly decided that no amount of spectacular sea views makes up for the fact that Ventnor is a very vertical town, and therefore not exactly accessible. I did decide to follow up on a nice bungalow just outside Ryde, and discovered that the letting agency managing it is one that requires a formal application before viewing, which seems to me to be the wrong way around.
While mum was out with Lady Friday, I filled out the application form, and now just need to wait for them to review it and decide if I’m an appropriate prospective tenant. If they decide against me… well, I’m so worse off than I am already. 🤷♂️
The only other highlight of my day was wearing my new owl earrings.

The posts are a little bent, which made getting them in and out of my ears even more difficult than it usually is, and putting earrings in when you can’t feel your fingertips is tricky enough already!
This evening I went to cook dinner, and mum decided this was the perfect time to dig through the freezer to see what there was to eat after dinner. (Her verdict: “all the good things are gone”. Pointing out that that was because she had eaten it all didn’t go down well.)
For my quesadilla I did some ‘Mexican inspired’ mixed veg (peppers, sweetcorn, and kidney beans with chilli), and for mum I did some Mediterranean veg in basil oil. I put mum’s cooked veg on one side while I did my quesadilla but, before I could quesadilla-use her veg mum dived in, spooned the veg into a bowl, and demanded to know what she could have with it.
I gave her the cheese, salad, and a tortilla – I’ll call it a deconstructed quesadilla – and put my actual quesadilla on my plate with some salad. Mum wasn’t happy that mine looked more interesting than hers, and failed to take my point that she could have had the same if she had just waited for five minutes.
After dinner I found four ‘nice things’ for mum to eat, which she had somehow just not seen in the freezer, and ate my own feelings in the form of Snickers ice cream bars, which I just adore.
Now it’s tv, Suki snuggles, and finally sleep. Owl be back tomorrow. 🦉
