Gammon with rarebit, cheese and potato croquettes, salad
Mum has spent most of today running to the loo. Her anxiety has been through the roof, and she has been feeling distinctly unwell. All put together, I think it’s likely that mum has a UTI.
I called the GP surgery, explained mum’s symptoms, and was put on the list for a call-back. Then I just had to get through the rest of the day until they called, reassuring mum approximately every 30 seconds that “I know you don’t feel well, we’re just waiting for the doctor to call”.
Eventually, just after 6pm, the GP finally called back. I explained mum’s symptoms, using almost exactly the same wording I used this morning, and a prescription for antibiotics was issued. All told, after waiting for more than 6 hours, the conversation with the GP lasted for 55 seconds.
Now – with apologies for the delicate subject – mum is feeling a little sore from peeing so much. I told mum to use some of her medicated cream. The resulting conversation went:
“What cream?”
“It’s the white tube, beside the toilet, in the bathroom.”
“Which one is the bathroom?”
I steered mum to the correct room. After picking up a few things, she found the correct item.
“What does this do?” she asked suspiciously.

We had a grocery delivery today, which meant we had lots of options for dinner. I cooked some Mash Direct Cheese and Onion croquettes – highly recommended! – and some bacon steaks (aka gammon steaks, but mum won’t eat gammon ๐). Mum didn’t eat much, and I can tell that she is genuinely feeling unwell as she followed it with only a single ice cream cone.
One of the things you won’t have to wait much longer for is the Pineapple Sponge cookbook! For the second day in a row, I did some work on it today, and I can finally see the finish line. I’m not going to give a publication date, but it will be this year.
And on that single bright spot of the day, I will leave you. Hopefully I will be back tomorrow, if I don’t get completely sick of mum’s endless complaining and end up throwing something at her. (Jk, I promise.)
