Quorn fillets, crispy potato slices, sweet chilli-glazed veg

This morning started, as it often does, with a bowl of cereal followed by a (now rather overripe) banana, which I put on the bed beside me while I ate my Weetabix.

Then I did my meds, did mum’s meds, then settled in to take my second ever telephone appointment with my consultant over on the mainland. We went through a lot in a fairly short conversation, concluding that I’m going to stay on the riboflavin supplements, because “they might do something eventually”.

I’m also going to have ‘fun’ trying to decrease (and possibly eventually eliminate) my daily dose of one painkiller while increasing another one to compensate. The consultant treated me as an intelligent, knowledgeable colleague, leaving it to me to work out what works. I appreciate the confidence in me, but with everything else that I have to handle I rather wish someone would just tell me what to do and I would do it.

He also confirmed my own impression that I am likely to always have some degree of impairment, and so it will be worth my while to get a mobility scooter. I see a shopping trip in my near future.

That done, I made various phone calls, and sorted through some old post that mum wasn’t sure needed keeping or could be thrown out. Then I went to get myself some lunch – a microwave meal of chilli noodles, which made me very happy as I haven’t had anything properly spicy in some time.

I took the bowl back to my bedroom, straightened up the duvet cover – and found the squished remains of the banana which I had, unknowingly, been sitting on for the previous three hours. 🤦‍♂️

So, after lunch, I changed my bedding, with help from mum on the sheet, which is challenging to fit on the mattress when your legs can give way at any time. As we are somewhat behind on laundry, I have ended up with a bed of many colours: a coral pink sheet, a yellow, green and blue checked duvet cover, and a navy and white striped pillowcase. At least it’s free of banana yellow.

Dinner was an oven tray special – garlic and herb Quorn fillets with the crispy potato slices mum is currently so fond of (I also think they’re pretty good). I cooked the last of the frozen green beans with some fresh baby corn, and dressed them with a glaze of sweet chilli and soy sauce. Mum, inevitably, drenched her plate in French dressing.

Then we had rhubarb crumble (from Tesco, not homemade, on this occasion) with cream. Then mum finished off the cream in the pot with a spoon. 🤣

Tomorrow we have the washing machine repair person coming, after which, to celebrate (or possibly commiserate), I will make the banana cake I promised mum yesterday. I will be mashing the bananas with slightly more feeling after all the work their sibling caused me today. 🍌🔨
