Jacket potato with pesto tuna and salad

Sorry I didn’t post yesterday: it’s been an exhausting few days and I just ran out of energy.

This morning I woke from a peaceful night to find the house in silence. I got up, put in my contact lenses, and sneaked to the loo as quietly as possible so as to not wake up mum. Then I sneaked into the kitchen, fed Suki, then sat on my perching stool to make a fuss of her. It was all really very pleasant.

Then mum woke up, and told me her head hurt, the toilet was dirty and “can’t you do something about it?” And off we went again, with another day of caring, and trying not to cry or lose my temper. Or both.

Suki decided to try to convince us that she hadn’t had any breakfast, so convincingly that mum asked me several times if Suki needed feeding. Suki sat, staring sadly at her bowl, one paw held pathetically the air, making her bid for nominee for Best Actress: Feline at the next Oscars.

Then she progressed to yelling, at which point she went from ‘aww’ to ‘OK, you’re being annoying now’. Of course, by the time lunchtime rolled around, Suki was back behind the sofa, fast asleep.

I spent the afternoon playing with my Sims, and (moderately) politely telling a friend that no, we can’t go to lunch with less than 24 hours’ notice, particularly when mum still can’t go far from a loo for any length of time.

Even my coffee is turning tabby.

This evening I did jacket potatoes, and asked mum which of the potatoes in the bag she wanted. I carefully cooked the one she wanted, only to see her pick the one I had chosen for myself instead. It was a minor thing – just a potato, after all – but I nearly cried.

Then I took mum’s potato, topped it with a mix of tuna, cottage cheese, and pesto, which was honestly delicious. (It looks kinda like Weetabix in the photo, but I promise it really is tuna.)

Suki heard the tin of tuna opening and came running, only to be sadly disappointed when I refused to give her any.

Now it’s the usual tv, mum eating ice cream, and Suki sitting beside me, occasionally prodding me with a paw to let me know she wants some attention.

All very boring, but boring is better than the recent excitement.
