Jambalaya

I don’t have much to write about today, except that I think I fell for a scam on Facebook. I filled in my details, put in my card details to pay for delivery, then another site popped up asking me to re-enter my card details “for confirmation”. I noped out pdq, but am a little annoyed with myself for giving the site my personal information and not realising it was a scam.

So, for the benefit of warning other people, be wary of an advert offering a selection of Schwartz herbs and spices in return for completing a survey: it looks to not be genuine. (And doesn’t it say a lot about me that the one time I fall for a scam it’s a food related one?)

Further experimentation with the camera on my new phone. Good, huh?

I also had a telephone appointment with the local Job Centre, during which I was advised that I will need to visit the Job Centre in person next week. I’m simultaneously annoyed that I need to make the journey for them to confirm that my recent inheritance means I won’t be eligible for Universal Credit anymore1, and quietly excited at a trip out of the house.

I wonder how much it would annoy the taxi driver if I bring a takeaway back with me? I really miss meals I don’t have to cook myself, particularly meals from cultures which I lack the knowledge to replicate. (My go-to while living in Portsmouth, for down days, and sick days, and cba days, was beef rendang, coconut rice, and monk vegetables (mixed veg and tofu in a garlicky sauce), from the nearby Malaysian place which knew me well enough that my mixed veg never included cauliflower, and I can’t tell you how much I miss it.)

This evening I made jambalaya, my favourite Simply Cook recipe. I used less than half of the spice pot but mum still thought it was too spicy. I loved it, though: something about the carbs of the rice, the savoury flavour, and the fresh prawns is deeply appealing to me. Then mum ate her last remaining tub of coffee ice cream (Tesco didn’t have any for last week’s order, tragically) and I did the same to a tub of Ben & Jerry’s caramel brownie ice cream.

And on that sweet and somewhat sticky note, I will end for today. See you tomorrow, everyone.

Tbf, I love most Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. There are flavours I love slightly less, but not so much so that I would turn up my nose if they were offered to me!
