Pesto tuna salad

So today was dentist day. That meant mum spending most of the day panicking, changing clothes multiple times, and panicking some more.

I sent the dentist’s office an email giving more details of the background to the visit, less than an hour before the appointment, they phoned to ask for a copy of the hospital x-ray. A little more notice would have been nice?! I called the hospital department and left a message, but it’s the standard “5 to 7 days” for a response, so nowhere near in time for today’s appointment.

Anyway, I accompanied mum down to the dentist’s office, got her checked in, headed back outside, and realised there was nowhere for me to wait. The closest seating area was a couple of hundred yards away which, for a person on crutches, might as well be a couple of miles away.

So I spent a good 40 minutes or so wandering around, as much as is possible on crutches, anyway, and taking photos of some of my favourite buildings.

I know this building has quite an interesting history, but the details elude me atm.

Then it started to rain so I, very reluctantly, retreated to the dentist’s waiting room. There I was told that the dentist has found no signs of infection, and so no cause for mum’s headaches. And so back to the drawing board we go.

Then home, to wait for the anaesthetic to wear off so mum could have something to eat, which she took with her customary grace and patience. (“I suppose I can’t even drink water… oh, I can? Well, that’s something, but not very much.”)

Eventually I gave in and made her a sandwich, as hot food would be a bit risky, which mum ate with an air of martyrdom as “it’s not the sort of thing I would usually eat”. She finished and looked to me as if expecting me to be impressed by her courage under fire.

Apologies if I sound even more grumpy than normal: I’m just tired. And so I will leave this here, and catch up with you tomorrow when I’m less weary and annoyed with the whole world.
