Breaded Quorn fillets, chips, salad
The title is in caps because, for the first time in ages, it rained today. And it really rained. At one point it sounded like it was trying to batter its way in through the windows.
Mum missed most of it, because she has been feeling very down all day (not that I can blame her, with all the health problems she has atm) and spent much of the day sleeping. I feel rather guilty admitting it, but it made for a lovely peaceful day for me. I would like to say I used the time productively, but actually I played endless rounds of my current favourite game1 and started reading a new book, watched the rain and some soggy birds, and generally enjoyed not being ‘on’ for once.
Mum somewhat reluctantly got up in time for dinner, and came into the living room with an imitation of a bird call and an unspoken request for identification of the caller. I hazarded a guess at ‘great tit’, at least partially on the basis of the old birding wisdom that if you can’t identify a bird song then great tit is always a good guess. (Because they have very variable calls, not just as a random selection.)
A short while later, while we were eating dinner, there was a “thud” from the living room window and I looked round to see a young great tit flying back to one of the garden shrubs. It was purely my imagination that it had other, smaller birds tweeting around its head as it went. (It later flew off with the rest of its flock, so it had clearly escaped with nothing more than a headache and some bruised pride.)
Dinner was very unimaginative: garlic and herb Quorn fillets (mum said ” I won’t eat that.” I said “it tastes like chicken.” (Which it kinda does, albeit of the highly processed kind.) Mum said “oh, that’s OK then” and ate it quite happily), oven chips (which welded themselves to the kitchen foil I cooked them on), and some browning salad. How thrilling. 😕
For afters I had the last of the passionfruit and raspberry cheesecake, which mum put in the freezer a few days ago, but which wouldn’t fit back in so I had to eat it. 🤷♂️ Now it’s crappy tv, a mug of decaff coffee, and mum saying “I just want to go back to bed” every ten minutes, until it really is time for bed.
- I play games through one of those “earn £££ playing games” so technically it was a productive use of time, but I carried on playing well past the daily limit, so it went straight out the other side of productivity. ↩︎
