Carrot and sweet potato soup; cheese jacket potato; ham and smoked cheese sandwiches; strawberry yoghurt; millionaire’s shortbread
I may perhaps have gone a little too far tonight in my quest to not wake up feeling hungry at 2am the next morning.
Knowing the supper special was a cheese jacket potato, I of course got my order in asap, pdq, and any other assortment of letters to reflect the speed of my “yes, please”.
As assembled by a member of staff who either shares my tastes perfectly, or has read my previous reviews, or both, it was exactly what a cheesy jacket should be: swimming in a lake of melted cheese and butter, with the potato in there somewhere.
If the skin was chewy from the microwave where I would ideally prefer it to be crunchy from the oven, I rapidly forgot about it while scraping more melted cheese from the edges of the plate.
It was, naturally, very delicious, with multiple cheese pulls and enough tasty grease left over to necessitate the use of a cheese and ham sandwich to finish the mop-up job. (Which is – honestly – the only reason I asked for a couple of sandwiches, as I didn’t need bread with a potato.)
Neither did I need soup but, after all those weeks in hospital where soup was a mainstay of the last meal of the day, I find it doesn’t feel like supper unless I’ve had some soup. This was another good one, too: nicely sweet but not too sweet, tasting of its billed carrots and sweet potatoes, and with a very nice kick from the heavy-handed use of a pepper mill. It was also so thick you could almost use a knife and fork to eat it instead of a spoon which… idk, is kinda fun?
Then a strawberry yoghurt and, because I was craving something really sweet, one of the pieces of millionaire’s shortbread from the gift box from The Millionaire Baker kindly sent to me by Jennie. I really do intend to do a proper review of at least one flavour, but both of the ones I have tried so far have mysteriously evaporated before I can do so. It must be aliens, or something.
Scores:
- Jacket potato: 9/10 – only because I do like a crispy skin on my JPs.
- Soup: 9/10 – possibly the best of the very good bunch I’ve had so far.
- Millionaire’s shortbread: would have been 10/10 if I’d got to eat it before the aliens got it.
- Overall: 9.34/10.
After all that I am, unsurprisingly, stuffed, and just hope I haven’t fallen asleep when the nurse arrives for what could well be my last supervised medication session. 🥱
[I’m so full and sleepy I genuinely just forget, on my way back from the loo to finish off and post this review, that I can’t walk properly, and nearly took an embarrassing tumble when my legs didn’t respond as I have long been accustomed to them doing. Luckily the armchair caught me, and I promise faithfully not to be that forgetful again! 😳]
