Broccoli cheese bake, mash, and salad; apple; yoghurt
A couple of evenings ago, after a particularly scanty supper, I rather grumpily asked the rhetorical question of where the money paid by long-term residents was going, seeing as it clearly wasn’t being spent on the evening meal.
I now think I know the answer to that question, and it’s an answer I thoroughly approve of: they invested it all in the cheese market, and withdrew their investment to make today’s lunch of broccoli cheese bake.

I mean, look at it: all that golden top was melted cheese, the white bits you can see were bits of unmelted cheese, the pool on the left-hand side was molten cheese, the sauce was so cheesy you could practically slice it…
Oh, and there was broccoli in there too, nicely cooked so it was soft enough to cut with a fork but without it turning into green mush, but I got the feeling it was only there because someone somewhere would disapprove of the kitchen just sending out bowls of cheese sauce topped with melted cheese. (Needless to say, I would not be that disapproving person.)
Today’s potato side was mash – creamy and buttery, because what I clearly needed with a plateful of melty cheese was more dairy fat – and I asked for my usual side salad because even I know I have to stop the dairy overload at some point.
Or not, because I didn’t fancy the pudding today (white chocolate and raspberry roulade: things I like separately but not together, for some reason) so asked for fruit and yoghurt (yet more dairy) instead.
It’s a good thing that I now have snacks so won’t be relying on cheese and biscuits for my evening protein needs. I’m not saying I won’t have it anyway, of course, just that I don’t need to!
Score: 10/10 – honestly, literally couldn’t have been better. Bravo, the kitchen, bravo! 👏
