Indochinese vegetable noodles
Yesterday I gave myself a day off doing anything except the essentials (tablets for mum and me, cleaning Suki’s tray, making dinner), which meant I had nothing to write about. Sorry, all.
Today I started working on the minutes of Friday’s committee meeting, but quickly got distracted trying to work out the most cost-effective way of launching the project’s website. It’s the sort of thing that seems like it should be easy, but when you start factoring in introductory offers, additional costs for buying the domain name and email addresses, and long-term running costs, it quickly becomes headache-inducingly complicated.
Mum came in several times, said she understood I was working and left, then promptly forgot and came back in. The reason for the multiple visits was that she was in pain: the usual headache, toothache, back ache, and knee pain all got a mention.
I called the dentist and confirmed that there’s nothing wrong with mum’s teeth that could be causing her pain, so reluctantly broached the idea that it might be a processing issue: i.e. that the pain is real, just not the result of an injury.
I don’t think mum really understood, which is fine: she doesn’t need to understand as long as the doctor does. I sent a message to the surgery suggesting this idea, through their wildly unhelpful online consultation service (if you give the ‘wrong’ answer, it says it can’t help you – luckily it doesn’t lock you out, so you can go back and change the offending answer, but it’s still annoying), and hope they’ll come back with something helpful.
I never did sort out the website issue. I was thinking of using WordPress, which is what this blog runs on, but their quoted price doesn’t include email and, ridiculously, they can’t tell you upfront what it will cost to buy an email address. In the unlikely event anyone from WordPress reads this: fix this, please. It’s annoying, and you lost a sale because of it.
For dinner I made vegetable noodle stirfry, using a Simply Cook kit, although not all of it because it’s medium spicy and therefore a bit too hot for mum. Interestingly, mum ate it without complaint, while I was thinking “this has a definite kick to it”. It was tasty, though, if a bit salty, and it piqued my appetite (still not recovered from the antibiotics) so much I had seconds.
I have decided that I prefer wholewheat noodles, which I used here, to their white counterpart: they have an almost creamy flavour that makes them good with anything, particularly a meal like this that is very low in fat and calories. The veg was a nice, colourful mix, although the carrots were a bit underdone. I find carrots so frustrating in that regard: they just take an age to cook, no matter how I cook them.
Suki appeared briefly, decided curried veg noodles weren’t for her, and disappeared again. I’m sure she’ll be back later, to sit on the arm of the chair and snuggle adorably.
As mum often says – “we picked a good ‘un, didn’t we?” 🐈❤️
Hopefully someone will say the same about my choice of website hosting service, when I choose one. If any of y’all run a website and would be able to recommend a hosting service, do please let me know. I could use any and all help I can get on this one.
