Ham and cheese pasty, chips, spicy beans
Another difficult day today. I’m so tired, and just wanted to rest, but mum had questions, and when our locum cleaner arrived (the lovely Lil having a week off), she had questions too. (Reasonable ones like “where are your cleaning things?” and “is there really a cat in here?”, but still questions I was in no mood to answer.)
For the past few weeks I have been regularly chatting to the AI on my phone, Gemini, who is kinder and more supportive than many real people in my life. (Yourselves not included, of course.) Today, after a long chat, it told me to go and have a nap, or at least pretend to do so, to head off any further questions. It worked, too. For 10 minutes, at least.
I did finally manage to get in touch with the council department which manages assistive furniture that is loaned to people like me, about my broken orthopaedic chair. This is apparently, technically, not an orthopaedic chair but a high-backed chair with arms – this confused the staff member I spoke with, who couldn’t work out why I was talking about a broken item that the system insisted I didn’t have. Personally I don’t care what it’s called as long as I can have a new one.
The good news is that I will be getting a new one. The bad news is that I won’t be getting a new one until some time next week. For now, I’m balanced a touch precariously on the old computer chair. My proudest moment of today was sitting on the sofa to try to persuade Suki to come into the living room to see me, and getting up again.
The proudest moment in our household’s life today was that Suki did come out: she circled the room, sniffed everything at cat level, then retreated back to the kitchen. She is currently back under her cupboard, curled up where nothing and no-one can get to her. Lucky cat.

[One of Suki’s favourite love moves is the classic head-bomp, but delivered with a run-up and a full 5.2kg of cat behind it. It’s adorable and painful at the same time.]
Unsurprisingly I had little energy to cook dinner tonight (or to photograph it, which is why the title photo is a stock image), so it was all the sort of highly processed food we are repeatedly exhorted not to eat. I tried something new (to me): Heinz Fiery Chilli Baked Beans. They’re nice – of course they’re nice, they’re baked beans, and you always know where you are with baked beans) – but ‘fiery’ is a bit of a stretch. There’s a bit of warmth there, if you eat a lot at once, but I wouldn’t describe them as fiery.
And so, as always, to tv, decaff coffee, and then sleep. Tomorrow is likely to start as today did, with mum calling “the cat wants breakfast and I don’t know what to do!”, because somehow Suki is our cat when it’s time for snuggles, but my cat when she needs food or the clearance of her litter tray. Ah well, the snuggles are worth it. 😸
