Breaded chicken, roasted root veg, salad
This will be short, as two days out in a row has wiped me out. As usual, mum has been puzzled why I’m so tired, and I’ve had to re-explain the concept of chronic illness to her. I’m still not convinced she really gets it, and doesn’t think I’m just being lazy.
One good bit of news is that Smokey the cat – henceforth Suki, with many thanks to Pauline for the name suggestion – has been cleared by the vet earlier than expected. One of the shelter’s volunteers has offered to bring our cat over to us (I may have promised homemade cake as thanks, so will have to make one over the weekend): he offered to do it tomorrow, but our front door is being repaired so the house will be no place for a nervous cat.
So instead, Suki will be here on Monday morning, ready for the start of a new working week. Over the weekend I need to clear the pile of boxes on the sofa-bed in my bedroom, so any feline exploration doesn’t result in a cardboard avalanche. I’ll make sure to empty one of the boxes and donate it to Suki as a temporary hiding place, until her new cat tower arrives.
I am familiar enough with cat behaviour to know that, in all likelihood, Suki will prefer the box anyway.
This afternoon, Lady Friday came round and, as the sun was (very momentarily) out, went for a walk with mum. Then they sat in the living room and chatted, and Lady Friday made every effort to persuade mum to leave me in peace for an hour or so. Not entirely successfully, but I appreciate that she tried.
Then it was time to cook dinner, and it was another of my favourite traybake dinners: breaded chicken and roast parsnips (both from the freezer), roast baby carrots and roasted, marinated potatoes (from Tesco).
In the absence of coffee ice cream for dessert (much to mum’s very vocal indignation, Tesco didn’t have any last week), I microwaved a couple of long-life sponge puddings from my emergency stock in the cupboard. They were the last ones, so I must remember to add some to our grocery order.
So that was today. Only two more days until Suki-puss arrives. š
