Jacket potato with cheese, with bacon and cabbage
Not much to say about today, tbh.
Mum spent much of the day complaining about her various aches and pains, until I asked her – almost begged her, tbh – if we could please talk about anything else. It resulted in her usual petulant starting to say something then interrupting herself with “but you don’t want me to talk about that, do you?”, but also a temporary hiatus on the talk of her health, so I’ll accept the former as the price of the latter.
Unfortunately Lil couldn’t make it today due to illness1, much to mum’s vocal disappointment, so the highlight of the day was the delivery of our groceries. Mum started her usual string of complaints about “where do you expect me to put all this stuff?”, but I managed to cut it short by presenting her with six bars of her favourite chocolate, which hasn’t been available for the past couple of weeks. She won’t try any other variety, so I was extremely grateful to see it back on the website this time.
This afternoon our post arrived, mum gave me mine (a box of tablets from my online pharmacy), and opened hers. After a few minutes mum said “do you know anyone with dementia?”, and I realised that she had opened the package of resources I had ordered from Alzheimer’s UK. The resulting conversation was a bit awkward, and I can’t even blame mum as I’m pretty sure she opened it by accident.
I’m only pretty sure as she has opened my post on purpose before “just to see what it was”. As long as she doesn’t do it to my soon-to-arrive package from The Millionaire Baker: that millionaire’s shortbread is MINE!
Dinner was a mum favourite – jacket potatoes – combined with a me favourite – cabbage with bacon and garlic. If you’ve never tried it, do: it’s a delicious combination. Make sure you put more cabbage in the pan than you think you need, though: I always forget, as I did this time, how much it cooks down.
And that really is it. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day, I get a chance to read some of the Alzheimer’s resources, and I don’t end up nearly crying when mum takes the bowl I’m planning on putting some leftover Eve’s pudding in, just because I’m tired and in pain, and losing my bowl is the final straw.
- Get well soon! ↩︎
