Lemon pepper turkey burgers with chips and salad / roasted garlic and rosemary lamb with roasted roots and green beans

I didn’t post yesterday as, despite it being a day full of doing stuff, I didn’t have much to write about.

I find it frustrating that mum increasingly won’t do anything much around the house. I can understand her inability to do things like using the washing machine, the operation of which now escapes her, but she’s perfectly capable of hanging the washing out to dry – she just won’t. She might step in if I look particularly tired or uncertain on my feet, but otherwise I’m on my own.

(I will note that mum is generally happy to do the washing up, though, for which I am grateful as I find handling wet, slippery bits of fragile china with hands that don’t always respond as instructed oddly unnerving.)

For dinner, I continued my attempt to empty the freezer so it has room for Christmas food (of which there will be a lot as the latest delivery slot I have been able to get is next Wednesday, so I’ll have to make sure we have a good couple of weeks of food in) and defrosted some turkey mince. (Don’t tell mum – she won’t eat turkey so I told her it was chicken.)

I mixed it with some crispy fried onions and some lemon pepper seasoning from my Advent calendar, then simply fried them and served them with oven chips and salad. As usual, I thought it was good, while mum ate hers without comment.

This afternoon, mum was invited to a special afternoon service at the church, so I spent the day assuring her that yes, it will all be fine, and no, you’re not going to look stupid.

Eventually mum’s friend turned up, chivvied her out of the door, and left me in peace for a good couple of hours. In that time I took in and put away a mini grocery shop – just enough to see us through until our Christmas shop arrives on Wednesday – and did some more work on the mince pie taste test post for publication in the next day or so.

I did so while nursing my increasingly painful left hand, in which I think I may have something like carpal tunnel syndrome. I have said I will call the GP tomorrow to arrange an appointment to get it seen, but I suspect I’ll sleep too long, because I’m really tired, and it will have to wait until the following day.

For dinner I just did lamb leg steaks, sprinkled with some roasted garlic, rosemary and sea salt seasoning (from my Advent calendar, of course), with roasted mini carrots and parsnips and some plain green beans. It was nice enough.

Tomorrow our cleaner is coming so I will need to make sure I write her Christmas card in the morning, and preferably resist the temptation to open the box of biscuits I bought her as a small token of our gratitude. It shouldn’t be too hard as I have plenty of mince pies left from taste tests if I want something sweet. Which I do so, if you’ll excuse me, I’m heading mince pie-wards. ๐Ÿ˜‹
