Homemade three cheese pizza

Mum has been feeling better today. Of course, she’s not aware of that: as far as she’s concerned, she’s in pain and “when is someone going to do something about this?”

But I could see that she was brighter. She went out into the garden and pruned some things, got out some old photos and talked about dad, and about horses and cats of the past. Whole hours went past with only occasional mentions of her health. She even watched tv on her own for a while, rather than being superglued to my side at every moment.

I called mum’s dentist and confirmed that she’s still registered, which she is after the practice manager decided to disregard their rule about the maximum period between appointments, given our circumstances. Tomorrow I will confirm availability with the friend who will be taking mum to her appointment then book said appointment. I will be staying away, given that I have a dental phobia so severe I pass practices on the opposite side of the road wherever possible.

I do wonder if mum’s mild toothache and her headaches are connected. Mum was told in the past by an ENT consultant that she ground her teeth in her sleep, although her dentist found no evidence of it. Maybe she does and that’s causing, or at least aggravating, her head pain?

I’m surprised no-one has mentioned the possibility, and only time will tell if that’s because my theory is very unlikely.

For dinner I made a pizza, using ready-made dough, from the freezer, and far too much cheese (mozzarella, red Leicester, grana padano). Getting it off the foil I’d baked it on turned out to be a challenge – I probably should have left it to cook for a few more minutes, tbh – but it tasted good enough that mum gave it a “yum!”

Now the sound of bell ringing practice is echoing across the village, between gusts of wind, and mum is singing along with tv theme tunes, a reliable indicator that she’s feeling OK.

Long may it continue.
