Glazed haddock with miso caramel potatoes and yasai green beans

Last night it rained on the Isle of Wight. All of the rain that has been missing over the last few months fell in a few hours, leaving many parts of the Island under a foot or more of water.

Our house remained resolutely above water, and that’s about all the news I have for today.

Mum has been feeling quite unwell as… how to put this delicately… a certain intestinal issue resolved itself quite thoroughly, leading mum to spend much of the day going to and from the bathroom.

In the interests of not making things worse, I postponed most of the things I was intending to do today, leaving me with little to write about.

I will say that, coincidentally or otherwise, mum has been better mentally today than she was during yesterday’s assessment. That doesn’t change anything, of course, but makes being with her more pleasant.

Dinner was – a touch insensitively to those flooded out, but not intentionally – fish, veg, and potatoes in a vaguely Japanese style, from another Simply Cook recipe box. Mum really enjoyed this one, with both of us agreeing the miso caramel potatoes were delicious. Mum didn’t object at all when I suggested I might buy a jar of miso, so I think I might finally have found something new to add to my narrow palette of flavours that I know mum likes.

Tomorrow it’s meant to rain again, so can I ask that someone throw me a rope if you see me floating past, please? Ta!
