Hoisin chicken skewers with vegetable noodle stirfry
Today was a good day. Mum has been sharper and more herself than she has been for some time. This afternoon she went out for a walk with a friend and came home expressing enthusiasm for an invitation to join the community choir / singing group that is held in the village church once a week, which she hasn’t previously been interested in despite being an extremely talented singer. The selfish, introverted part of me is less than happy with this, as she won’t go unless I go with her, but the rest of me is pleased her old interests are resurfacing.
While she was out, I took a phone call from the social prescriber, who confirmed there are no transport options I’ve missed and that poor transport is a known problem in the area, which oddly made me feel much better about it. He was able to provide a number of events and organisations that might provide help for me and mum, both together and separately, many of which you will likely hear more about over the coming weeks and months.
Other than that, today has been quiet and largely lacking in interest1 with only mum’s renewed agreement to go to a local shelter to look at cats – not this week, but soon – to console me. (I thought I had pretty much accepted that we wouldn’t be getting another cat, but a piece on The One Show about dog adoptions brought me near to tears of longing for a furry companion. It’s now happening again, so let’s change the subject.)
Dinner was hoisin chicken kebabs from Iceland – very nice, too, and generously portioned – with frozen stirfry veg and noodles cooked together with a bit of hoisin sauce. Mum said it was “nice”, which I believe is two Mum-chelin stars (I’ve forgotten how the scale works already).
Then between us we finished off the mango and passionfruit cheesecake, which got a definite three Mum-chelin stars (“we can have this again, can’t we?”) and the equivalent rating from me: it’s really very delicious and I strongly recommend it.
Tomorrow I have the excitement of a trip to Tesco because I forgot to include deodorant in the last grocery order, and I don’t want y’all to be able to smell me through the blog. 🤣
- Unless you consider the resurgence of the chronic pain in my feet, probably as a result of too much activity and stress, to be interesting, which I don’t. Frustrating, but not interesting. ↩︎
