Vegetable makhanish with chicken pakoras and garlic naan

I didn’t post yesterday as there wasn’t much to say: “woke up, felt awful, cooked a frozen pizza, went to bed again” isn’t exactly thrilling content. I will, however, share a little snippet as an example of what living with my mum is like.

There was something on television that I was half watching, but mum was bored and started watching videos on her phone instead, with the sound up full because that’s what she always does. One video cut off partway in, and mum said she wanted to see the rest, so I looked it up, started playing it and mum said “can you turn that off, please, I’m watching tv”.

So I turned it off, mum watched the programme on tv for maybe 90 seconds, declared “I’m bored”, and started channel hopping. I gave up and went back to sorting out this week’s grocery order.

I similarly have little to say about dinner, except to note that Iceland’s thin crust vegetable pizza is very nice, and very vegetable-y, and mum ate a whole half of it for dinner.

Today hasn’t been much better by way of activity, although I did call the mortgage company to check that they had received the letter I sent them a couple of weeks ago. After some considerable time on hold, as the person I was talking to was on hold, I got the requested confirmation and a promise of an email to that effect that I could use as evidence for my Universal Credit application. Which still hasn’t turned up, but the nice person1 I spoke to gave me the department’s direct number so I can get through to them without all the “press 2, press 5, you’re now being put in a queue” malarkey.

Dinner was homemade curry, which I’m claiming was sort of makhani-ish because I finished it with a bit of butter (and because “makhanish” sounds good): please don’t ask what else was in it because, apart from the butter and coconut cream, I don’t now have a clue. The chicken pakoras were from Iceland: mum found them much too spicy last time, but the mskhanish sauce tamed them nicely. The garlic naan isn’t homemade, but is highly recommended, or will be when I find out what brand it is. (I threw the packet away and now wish I had taken note of the brand name on it first.)

And so to the end of another day; I just need to force my weary brain to think of a title for this post, then I’ll eat the last of the chocolate ice cream and wait for The Repair Shop to start, knowing that I will quickly start to feel sleepy and miss most of the details of later items. Thank goodness for iPlayer, even if my watch list is currently of a length that I might even start to feel better by the time I get to the end of it.

  1. ‘Nice’ isn’t exactly a defining feature, as everyone I’ve spoken to at Nationwide is nice. Take a recommend from me, for what little that’s worth. ↩︎
