Smoked haddock with herb crust, chorizo potatoes, mixed veg with paprika butter, and saffron aioli; banana and chocolate custard
Just wondering, but does anyone know of a good way to stop the house smelling of fish after you’ve cooked it? It’s fairly pungent in here atm, I have to say, so any suggestions will be most gratefully received.
Today started for me with a series of dreams of various things gnawing at my feet, and I was unsurprised to wake to find my nerve pain was particularly bad. Shortly after, I discovered that, due to an unflagged change in tablet strength, I have been taking twice the prescribed dosage of one of my painkillers for the past couple of weeks. As this error hasn’t provided any noticeable lessening of my pain levels – in fact on several days, including today, I have had to resort to my trusty bottle of Oramorph – the GP I spoke to in an emergency telephone consultation (I’m fine, btw, and the GP has no concerns about my inadvertent overdose) has referred me back to the Pain Clinic to review my medication. I didn’t plan for this, but all’s well that ends well, as some playwright somewhere probably wrote.

Dinner tonight was another Simply Cook recipe box: it was meant to be cod, and not smoked, but I changed the first to accommodate mum’s preferences, and the second entirely by accident through misreading the Sainsbury’s website. I’m pleased to say the flavour combination was very good with smoked fish, even if that isn’t what the recipe developers intended. The spice mix that went on the roast potatoes was utterly delicious, and it’s a pity they don’t sell it by the jar rather than just in little pots as part of a recipe kit; I’d definitely buy some if they did. (A business idea for you for free, there, Simply Cook.)
For afters I went for one of my favourite things of the new, pro-chocolate era, chocolate custard, with banana for health (and because I like bananas), and topped with the last few chocolate chip digestives. I have no idea what happened to the rest of the packet, btw. It’s a complete mystery to me, I assure you.

So that is, once again, that. As usual I am unable to think of a witty and / or clever conclusion to this post: in fact my ability to wrangle words is rapidly deteriorating under the influence of Oramorph, so I’ll say goodnight, and don’t let the bedbugs, or miscellaneous dream creatures, bite.
