Chicken Kyiv, stuffing balls, peas; peach pieces

A late review tonight, for which my apologies: I got sidetracked watching the Christmas episode of The Dog House. (If you’re outside the UK or have never come across the programme, it’s about a dog rehoming centre and I always want to adopt all of them, with or without festive jumpers.)

It’s also once again a post without photos, because I had nearly cleared my plate by the time I remembered I should have taken some. 🤦‍♂️

It’s also going to be a genuinely short review as my phone’s low on battery, my charging cable is in the other room, and I’ve once again forgotten about fatigue management and my legs are too sore and tired to go and get it.

So: Iceland Whole Chicken Breast Chicken Kyiv (or Kiev, if you prefer). Look nice and golden, smell appropriately garlicky, but when you cut one open there’s a distinct lack of the garlic butter which is the whole point of a chicken Kyiv. It hasn’t melted into the cooking tray either, so clearly wasn’t there in the first place. They’re tasty enough, and not dry despite the lack of garlic butter, but the lack of garlic butter makes them a major fail for me.

Stuffing: Tesco own brand sage and onion. Found in the cupboard, left over from last Christmas, and mum asked if it would still be good to eat. I only know one way to test, and that’s to cook and eat it. I can say that, after a year in the cupboard, it tasted just OK, not a patch on good old Paxo but edible enough. Which I think makes it pretty much exactly the same as when first opened a year ago.

The peas were just frozen ones which I heated in the microwave, under the supervision of my carer who turned up just in time to help me with getting the bag out of the bottom drawer of the freezer, which I was afraid to do in case I bent down and got stuck there.

The lack of garlic butter (have I mentioned that?) made the meal a bit dry, so I added a generous heap of the tomato and garlic chutney that was part of the pâté gift box I was sent by one of you kind souls while I was in the care home.

My dessert was a little pot of peach pieces in juice, another gift from the Pineapple community.

And there is where I’ll stop, as my phone battery is running very low now, and I need to do something to stop the bedroom door blowing open every 30 seconds, but not by shutting it as then it rattle rattle rattles in a way that’s even more irritating than having to push it back into a closed position every…

Sorry, gotta go – I need to close the door again, for about the 20th time since I started writing this.
