Spanish quiche; sandwiches; crackers and peanut butter; pear
This is likely to be a short post1– in fact I strongly considered not writing a review at all tonight – but the earlier dose of Oramorph has worn off, I can’t take any more for about an hour, and I need something to distract me from the pain, and concentrating on moving words from brain to screen, preferably in a vaguely coherent form, seems like a good option.
One problem with the brain-to-screen process is that my hands have to be part of it and, as I have previously mentioned (I think?), they’re not always 100% under my control. To help solve this, one of the OTs has given me some Thera-Putty and some exercises to do with it.

Thera-Putty, if you haven’t come across it (and I hadn’t until a few weeks ago) is what it sounds like: putty (something like a firmer version of the slime that is apparently popular with the kids these days (🤓)) that is used for therapy purposes2 – you can squeeze it and roll it and stretch it, and, for a nd fidget like me, it’s a great thing to play with. And then after a few minutes your hand starts to hurt and you realise that it’s not just a fun toy but is actually doing something.
The supper special tonight was Spanish quiche. One of the HCAs on trolley duty started telling me what made it Spanish, as relayed to him by the chef who made it, but the conversation got interrupted and never restarted, so I guess I’ll never know. It didn’t taste particularly Spanish, or anything else, but it was good quiche: crunchy shortcrust pastry, no soggy bottom, and a well-seasoned filling. The fact one of my room neighbours didn’t want any and I could therefore have three small pieces, together adding up to a piece of quiche worth eating, really helped.
Sandwiches tonight were egg mayo on white, and tuna and onion on brown. I’ve never had tuna and onion sandwiches so of course I had to try them! They were nice: the onion didn’t have much flavour (soaked in water for some time to draw out the stuff that makes onions onion-y3, I would guess) so it mostly just added a pleasant crunch.
(Soup today was celery and potato: I’m not a fan of celery so opted to go soup-less for one evening. )
Then I pulled out some more bits of crackers (a kind gift from one Pineapple), covered them in peanut butter (ditto from another Pineapple), and happily crunched away. Then I had my last remaining pear – I was right yesterday when I said the one I ate then was a day off perfect, as this one was indeed perfect – and maybe a shortbread finger or two.
Or maybe three.
Is it time for the Oramorph yet? 😬
