Parsnip soup, sandwiches, chilli lime nuts (from Graze, of course), yoghurt

This is going to be a fairly brief supper review because somehow, despite taking four different types of painkillers every day, I have a headache. đŸ¤ˇâ€â™‚ī¸

Yesterday’s Sunday lunch, good as it was, was also a little disappointing to me in that it included only one piece of roasted parsnip. I commented in the chat over on Facebook afterwards that I was going to be really miffed if parsnip soup appeared soon afterwards as that would imply that they could have offered more roast parsnip and chose not to.

And, lo and behold, what should turn up on tonight’s supper trolley but parsnip soup. 😠

Don’t get me wrong, it was very nice parsnip soup – thick and creamy, sweet but not too sweet, really very pleasant – but the crucial thing is that it wasn’t roast parsnip.

As promised / threatened, I am indeed miffed.

And I was again when tonight’s supper special, listed on the menu as fish finger sandwich, turned out instead to be oven chips. I asked if there was at least some salt to put on them, but there wasn’t. The only point I have ever seen to oven chips is as a convenient and socially acceptable way to convey salt and ketchup to the mouth; without either, I’ll pass, thanks.

Instead I had cold sandwiches – two tuna and cucumber, two cheese and onion mayo – the latter of which filling was homemade and a whole lot tastier than the pre-made stuff you get in pots from the supermarket, which I already like quite a lot. When tonight’s trolley wrangler came back with my evening cup of decaff coffee, I asked if there were any left over. And there were.

I hope no-one else wanted those.

Then a generous handful of chilli and lime1 flavour nuts from another Graze special bag – pleasant, crunchy, not particularly chilli or lime-y, not knocking the salt and pepper mix off the top spot but still a very nice bit of snackage – and an apricot and mango yoghurt to finish.

I think I’m going to stop giving scores for the ‘normal’ suppers, as there’s a limit to how many different ways I can say “good soup, decent sandwiches”, so that’s it for this evening. I’m going to sit here and try to ignore this headache until such time as I can reasonably go to bed and (hopefully) sleep it off.

  1. “But aren’t you allergic to citrus?” I hear you ask. Yes, I am, but ‘lime juice powder’ is the last item on a list of flavourings that makes up only 6% of the bag, so I figured I would be safe enough. And I was, obviously, as I’m writing this. ↊ī¸Ž
